The Municipality of Zitsa adopted the modern proposal for urban transportation with the installation of the “smart Bus Stop”.
The “Smart Bus Stop” of Public Transport represents the most innovative trend in the field of smart transportation in the framework of urban environments. Its high quality construction along with the total of its electronic services, but also with the possibilities of print and digital advertising, make it a complete and competitive proposal for urban transport in an ever-growing digital world.
The “Smart Bus Stop” has the potential to be fully adapted to the needs and requirements of the prospective user both in terms of appearance and services. In this way, the standard bus stop is modernized by adopting the new technologies. In particular, the shelters installed by the Municipality of Zitsa, provide functionality and adaptation to the environment and are combined with the signs of the stops in a harmonious set. They also offer the necessary protection to urban transportu users from the weather conditions during their waiting time and ensure visibility in each direction.
The shelters support the posting of any printed information, related to the operation of the public transport, updating the passengers, while at the same time the posted informative material is fully protected from the weather conditions. Passengers, while waiting for the bus, are able to charge their portable electronics wired (via USB port) or wirelessly.
The use of photovoltaic panels, placed on the roof of the station, provide the installation with full (100%) energy autonomy. Furthermore, the powerful energy production enables autonomous night lighting with led lamps, an application that in addition to saving energy, also offers a sense of security in places that otherwise would not be lit or the lighting would not be adequate.
According to the mayor Mr Michalis Pliakos, the project is operated by the Municipality of Zitsa and its funding comes from the “PHILODIMOS II” Program but also from the Municipality’s own resources. The ultimate goal is to upgrade the quality of the services provided to the passengers within the Municipality of Zitsa, by setting up modern and elegant shelters at the bus stops in every Community of the Municipality cirque, whether they are served by urban or intercity transportation, enhancing citizens’ transportation by public transport, facilitating the use of digital technology and raising public awareness of energy saving issues.
