In the Municipality of Central Corfu, the alternative waste management has acquired an electronic assistant.

In the Municipality of Central Corfu and   Diapontian Islands, there is the first dedicated and updated website specifically for alternative waste management. The new website, recycle.corfu.gr is essentially a guide for alternative waste management at the Municipality of Central Corfu and so far, it includes fifteen sectors of recyclable materials. According to the mayor, Mrs Meropi Ydraiou, through recycle.corfu.gr, the citizens have the opportunity to be informed about the recyclable materials, but also about the places where they can deposit them, since there is a relevant detailed information map for the hotspots where materials can be recycled such as light bulbs (20 hotspots), batteries (51 hotspots), small electrical and electronic devices (10 hotspots), ink cartridges and toners (10 hotspots) and medicines (1 hotspot). The website also provides information on how excavation, construction and demolition waste can be recycled and disposed of (in fact representing about 25% – 30% of all waste generated in the European Union) vehicle tires, large appliances or even vehicles. Furthermore, it is   also available  an organized network for the separate collection of cigarette butts (shovels /cigarette butts) with the installation of special specifications bins, in at least 40 places within the town of Corfu where intense human activity is located. Through the specific new network, a separate collection of cigarette butts will be carried out by the cleaning crews of the Municipality, which will then be transferred to factories abroad for detoxification and recycling. The new website is easy to use, easy to understand, in terms of navigation and it can be an important tool since the citizens are involved in this effort. Please note that the website is also accessible in English.
