In Greece, there are efforts towards the improvement of the recycling rates. Our country has not achieved the goals of recent years and continues to use an overwhelming method of landfilling.Currently, about 500,000 tons of materials are recycled per year. However, this number corresponds to only 20% of the waste of the Greek society. There is the tendency them to lead to landfills the overwhelmingly large volume of waste, at a rate of 80%.However, there are also significant efforts in Greek municipalities, where recycling is extremely high.According to the mayor of Halki, Mr Angelos Fraggakis, a recycling program is already being implemented on the island, at a very advanced level.During the summer months, when the island faces the tourist wave, the effort is intensified.
