Tilos: The island that subverts any data in energy production

As a projection from the future in the field of energy, seems the pioneering project TILOS, implemented on the homonymous island of Dodecanese. Who could imagine that an entire island could be energy autonomous and its inhabitants be energy producers-consumers?

And yet Tilos is in the process of transition, so that it will soon become the first energy autonomous island in the Mediterranean.

Energy autonomy

By the TILOS project, awarded for its innovation with the Energy Island Award and the Audience Award from the European Union, Tilos with mayor Maria Kamma-Aliferi, can make the most of the inexhaustible energy sources located in abundance in Greece, as it is the sun and the wind.

TILOS Project is the first hybrid station, installed in Greece, that combines the production of electricity from RES and specifically from a wind turbine and a photovoltaic power station, and its storage in batteries (accumulators).

At the same time, the project manages the local energy system by predicting a future RES production and can regulate the energy consumption of household consumers.

Storage of energy produced by RES

For the first time, it is applied the storage of energy produced by RES and this changes radically the management of energy produced, by mitigating the fluctuations of RES production, making them undoubtedly the future source of energy for humans.

In addition, with the help of highly advanced software and smart energy consumption meters (Smart Energy Meters), installed for the first time in Greece on such a large scale, it is possible to predict future wind and solar production.

Reversal in energy data

This is a reversal of energy data, since with the TILOS Project, the future …. comes closer, as it takes place the gradual transition of consumers or entire islands to producer-consumers.
But the potential of the Project does not stop here, as, on the one hand, it ensures energy savings and optimizes the use of RES in the energy balance and on the other hand, the excess energy from RES, through intelligent management, can be offered to supply electric vehicles for local transport.

A Greek innovative project at the top of Europe

One of the most typical examples is the specific one, of the energy group EUNICE ENERGY GROUP (EEG) through TILOS, which was awarded for its innovation with the Energy Island Award and the Audience Award from the European Union.

The Project aims to change the way energy from Renewable Sources is produced and consumed.
