A Venue for Infant Care and Breastfeeding at the City Hall in Thessaloniki

Friendly and hospitable both for mothers and children becomes the City Hall of Thessaloniki, where it is now available a separate space of ​​baby care and breastfeeding. The venue delivery, donated by the Rehabilitation and Recovery Center of Thessaloniki “Anagennisi SA”, was attended by the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr Konstantinos Zervas, the Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of  the Center, Mrs Argyri Vagionas, the Deputy Mayor of Business Planning, e-Government and Immigration Policy, Mr George Avarlis ,the Chairman of the City Council, Mr  Petros Lekakis and the General Secretary of the Municipality Mr Efthymis Fotopoulos. In his statement, Mr Konstantinos Zervas underlined that by the creation of this space, the Municipality of Thessaloniki proves, in practice, the interest and sensitivity towards mothers.The Mayor of Thessaloniki explained that it was made clear the need to create this special corner in the City Hall for both  the employees and the visitors of the building, dealing with the municipal services. “By minor actions, it is shown off our sensitivity towards mothers, women, at the same time highlighting the importance of breastfeeding”, stressed Mr. Zervas, expressing the urge to create similar infrastructure in other places where there is an attendance of the public. “We have a corner of joy” said the mayor, expressing his gratitude for the support of the project by the Rehabilitation and Recovery Center of Thessaloniki “Anagennisi SA”. The Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of the “Anagennisi” Center, Ms Argyri Vagionas, noted that the Center, during  the last sixteen years, having achieved a social contribution and vision, has responded  to such calls”. She also shared her personal experience, saying that she, herself as a young mother years ago,had noticed the lack of relevant spaces. “We are ready and have the pleasure to assist in any such effort,” said Ms. Vagiona.The Deputy Mayor for Business Planning, e-Government and Immigration Policy, Mr George Avarlis, also referred to the importance of creating this breastfeeding and infant care venue at the City Hall.The baby care and breastfeeding venue is located on the first floor of the City Hall. It is a bright and well-designed space in which every mother has the opportunity to breastfeed and care for her baby, in conditions of privacy and comfort.
